| Thomas Jefferson School (“TJ”) offers one of the country’s top academic programs, with emphasis on daily in-class discussion and expression of ideas, high-level reading and writing skills, and in-depth knowledge of subject matter. A daily schedule of relatively short classes allows students more independent study time (but with supervised study hall for new students), maximum access to teachers for help as needed outside of class, and better preparation for college life. Interscholastic athletics, fine arts, community service, and many other activities complement the intellectual challenge, and long vacations provide time to relax, travel, and pursue one’s own interests. Graduates go on to highly selective colleges all around the country. Day students share dorm space on a lovely 20-acre campus with boarding students from the St. Louis metro area and from other states and countries. Five-day boarding is a popular option, even for some local families. All dorms and other buildings are networked for e-mail, phone, and Internet access. The athletic and fine-arts programs have been enhanced by new facilities, completed summer 2008.
