| St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, founded in 1837, is an internationally renowned private day and residential school for severely and profoundly hearing-impaired children, newborn through 8th grade. The communication philosophy is auditory-oral; therefore, children learn to listen and speak without the use of sign language. A full academic curriculum is integrated with intensive speech, listening and language therapy with the goal of mainstreaming students as soon as they are developmentally able. Mastery of spoken and written language prepares students for fulfilling, independent lives. St. Joseph Institute accepts children without regard to race, religion or gender. Financial aid is available. |
